Annual Celebration Benefits Work Of Philadelphia Academies Inc.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An organization that helps high school students in Philadelphia prepare for their next stage in life held an event Monday night showcasing some success stories.

Philadelphia Academies Inc. held a gala focusing on their work with Philadelphia  teens.

"What we do is we provide college and career readiness support at schools in the public school system here in Philadelphia," said Lisa Nutter, president of PAI.

Devin Bannerman, a senior at Roxborough High School, is an ambassador with Philadelphia Academies. He says the program was instrumental in helping him establish his clothing business called 'A King's World.'

"I plan on going to school for entrepreneurship," Bannerman said. "Basically, I want to start out small, like where I'm at now and hopefully by the time I go through college, I plan to grow it, and once I get out of college it will be a big thing and I can move on to something else."

During the event, former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter was honored for his work and Second Lady Jill Biden addressed the crowd.
