Want A Cheaper Cable Bill? A Web Bot Will Do The Negotiating For You

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you want to save money on your Comcast bill, sometimes all it takes is asking nicely. That's the premise under which a new web service operates. The best part? It does the negotiating for you.

Trim is an extension for the Chrome web browser.

Soon, it will allow you to seek help with slow Internet, or alert the company about a service outage.

For now, Trim can ask Comcast to lower your bill -- and claims a 70 percent success rate, with the average savings $10.

It's a bot that uses the cable giant's online customer service chat function to do your bidding, once you give Trim your name and the phone number, email, and address on your account.

While Trim does the dirty work, you can play games included on its site. The bot has 'defenses,' but the company notes you should watch for the rep trying to upsell you, put you into a bundle, or tie you to a contract with a cancellation fee.
