The Nation's Birthplace Revs Up Once Again For America's Birthday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Independence Day isn't until tomorrow, but Philadelphia's Fourth of July celebration was already getting underway this morning.

Philadelphia's Third of July celebration features food and music at the "Liberty Block Party," on Independence Mall.

Then, at night, the Philly Pops perform a variety of American favorites in front of Independence Hall (above).

That's why Cindy Breed of Alexandria, Va. is here.

"It's kind of where it all began, and the celebration is fabulous here," she said.  "We've been here a couple of times before on the Fourth, and it's our favorite city to come celebrate in on the Fourth."

And the actual Fourth of July will feature the "Party on the Parkway," with a free concert by The Roots, followed by fireworks over the art museum.
