Amaro: 'We Have No Intention Of Moving Jimmy Rollins'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Trade rumors or not, if you listen to Jimmy Rollins and Ruben Amaro, the shortstop isn't going anywhere.
Days after a report from ESPN's Buster Olney said that many in the Phillies organization think it would be a good idea to trade Rollins, the shortstop and his general manager commented on that report, and other related rumors to MLB.COM's Todd Zolecki.
"[No], because I can't be traded," Rollins told Zolecki, when asked if he was bothered by trade rumors. "It doesn't matter. I don't care which way it is tried to be twisted or said, or if it is exactly how it was said, or even if it was said, I can't be traded. It doesn't matter. If I was tradable it may have weight because that means I could be moving soon. But I am not tradable and so it doesn't matter."
Rollins, as a 10-5 player (10 years in MLB, 5 consecutive years with the same team), has to approve any trade.
"Jimmy Rollins is our shortstop," Amaro said, after calling the reports 'silliness.' "One of the ways we're going to be able to win is with Jimmy being Jimmy. … We have no intention of moving Jimmy. We need Jimmy to play for us to win. It's as simple as that."
