Allentown Sees First Snowflakes Of Winter

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- When it comes to snow, it's been a "hide and seek" Winter season.

Record warmth, some bitter cold, but few if any flakes.

Allentown residents did, however, get a brief sampling of how Winter normally behaves.

For about 90 minutes, beginning around 2 this afternoon, a moderate snow squall sent flakes flying and some scurrying to buy that bag of salt they hadn't yet purchased.

The snow caused no problems on Lehigh Valley highways or the lanes of the Northeast extension with both air and road surface temperatures too warm for freezing.

Some of the first flakes seen this Winter did, however, delight children and remind older residents of what Mother Nature might still have up her sleeve with weeks of Winter still ahead.
