All-Night Weekend SEPTA Subway And El Service Extended To Nov.

By Mark Abrams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Weekend night-time service on SEPTA's Broad Street and Market Frankford Lines will be extended into November.

SEPTA launched the pilot subway service on weekend nights starting June 15th, with plans to evaluate the experiment by summer's end.

Now, SEPTA's Manny Smith says the transit agency likes what it sees - in terms of ridership - and is curious to see what might happen this fall.

"This will give the Authority an opportunity to evaluate the service during the fall ridership season and provides time to attract new riders after they return from summer vacations," he said.

Smith says if there's enough ridership and revenue to support the subways on weekends, there's a possibilty SEPTA could continue it.

He says SEPTA management will look at the numbers and likely come up with a decision before the end of October.
