Aldi Opens Several New Stores, One In Philadelphia

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Discount grocery chain Aldi is cutting the ribbon on four new stores Thursday.

The new store at 31st Street and Girard Avenue is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Residents say being able to walk to pick up groceries should make their lives a little easier.

"I don't drive, but I have to pay people to take me places." says one resident. "This is a good thing."

"I've been here 30 years and I didn't have a market in my area." says another resident.

There's also a nice size parking lot for those who drive.

"We're excited to be here." says Director of Operations Tom Fangras. "We're looking into growing in the Philadelphia a lot more down the road in the next few years."

Three other stores opened in New Jersey, including one in Glassboro.
