AG Kane Announces Settlement With Philly Furniture Stores And Their Owners

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) – Attorney General Kathleen Kane has announced a settlement with a number of businesses which operated a Philadelphia furniture store known as "Furniture Sir-Plus."

The settlement, which resolves a lawsuit filed this past July by the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection, requires Furniture Sir-Plus to pay $75,000 to fund restitution owed to consumers who paid and never received furniture.

The lawsuit, which named individuals Charles Lederman, Mark Finkelstein and Daniel Roberts as defendants, alleged that the businesses took money from consumers for furniture and then failed to deliver their purchases.

The lawsuit also alleged that Furniture Sir-Plus suffered cash flow problems, and because of that, the defendants closed two of three locations and moved all leftover furniture to a different store to be taken over by Daniel Roberts and his business.

According to the AG's office, that business operated under the name "King Furniture Warehouse."

The lawsuit alleged that Finkelstein, Lederman and their businesses did not notify consumers they were closing, and even accepted payments for furniture up until the day they closed the two stores.

Furthermore, the lawsuit alleged that the new business kept the same phone number, computer system for furniture orders from consumers, yet failed to deliver the furniture to some of the former customers.

The settlement prohibits Lederman and Finkelstein from owning, managing, or controlling a furniture business in Pennsylvania.

The Attorney General's Office says the settlement was filed and submitted for final court approval in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas.
