After More Than 40 Years, Germantown Crossing Guard Retires

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's the end of an era in Germantown as a crossing guard retires after more than 40 years on the job.

Rain or shine, Willie Fullwood got up every day and made her way to the corner of Crittenden and Johnson to help kids get to school safely.

"I'll miss them because that corner is a part, you know, it's like a part of me," said Fullwood.

After 43 years on the job, the 85-year-old says it's time to move on.

"I thank the community. I thank the police district for allowing me to work this long," she said.

Police Chief Inspector Carl Holmes praised Fullwood for her dedication.

"We're very proud of her. We're obviously sad to lose her, such a dedicated professional, but we look forward to her having a prosperous rest of her life," said Chief Inspector Holmes.
