After Cyber Monday, Spend Time, Not Cash, In Your Community

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you don't have plans for Tuesday, it would be a good day to volunteer.

Black Friday gives way to Cyber Monday, in other words -- days to smoke the credit and debit cards buying stuff, but a global movement would have us spending time volunteering and giving back.

"Giving Tuesday is a day that's set aside after Cyber Monday to give back to your favorite charity, or give your time or talents, give back in some way to your community," says Laura McPhail, a spokeswoman for the Tyler Arboretum in Media, Pa.

McPhail says there are many different ways to help:

"For outdoor lovers, they can volunteer with our horticulture team just to care for the arboretum, general maintenance, but if people aren't really into weeding, but love decorating, the haywagon that we're gonna have for our hayride for that woodland winter wonderland will need some decorating."

This will be the third annual Giving Tuesday.
