AC Worker Facing Criminal Theft Charges

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (CBS) - A municipal worker in Atlantic City is in trouble with the law.

56-year-old William Hadley of Egg Harbor Township was the coordinator for the All Wars Memorial Building. After a lengthy probe, prosecutors in Atlantic County charged him with a total of six counts alleging theft and official misconduct.

Hadley is said to have accepted some $6,500 in money orders from five people to reserve rooms in the building.

The money went into his own pocket. He surrendered to authorities and was released pending a scheduled court appearance next week. Hadley has also been suspended, without pay, from his job.

The official misconduct charge carries the longest potential jail term if convicted at five to ten years.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor declined KYW Newsradio's request for an interview.
