Abington Police: Dog Being Treated At Montgomery County SPCA After Being Shot While Attacking Deer

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- A dog is being treated at the Montgomery County SPCA after Abington police say it was shot while attacking a deer. The incident happened around 9 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Bradfield and Susquehanna Roads.

Police say officers responded for a report of a dog attacking a deer. When officers arrived, they found the dog suffering from a gunshot wound.

Witnesses told police several bystanders unsuccessfully tried to separate the dog from the deer when a male bystander shot the dog.

The male has been located and is cooperating with the police.

The dog's owner has been identified and is with the dog at the SPCA in Conshohocken.

Officials say the dog is expected to survive.
