AAA Mid-Atlantic: New Jersey Gas Prices Down Slightly

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Memorial Day weekend is just a week away and drivers are seeing prices at the pumps in New Jersey hold steady.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the state on Friday was $2.51, down a penny from last week. That's much lower than the price from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.51.

The national average price on Friday was $2.69, up 3 cents from last week. But that's also much lower than the national average from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.64.

Analysts say the higher pump prices since March are due to slowing U.S. production, a weakened dollar and speculation of growth in China.
