WEATHER: A Wet and Cold Comeback!

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As a strong cold front approaches from the west, rain will spread across our area. Rain will fall heavy at times Tuesday, with the late afternoon/early evening experiencing the heaviest rain. It will be a slow commute with ponding on roads. Winds will gust to 30 miles-an-hour and there is a chance of a thunderstorm. One to two inches of rain is expected across the area by late Tuesday night.
In the wake of the front, the wind will shift to the northwest ushering in cold air. A Freeze Watch will go into effect early Wednesday morning, as temperatures plunge to freezing in the city, 20's in our suburbs. As the cold air meets the remaining moisture, the showers could end as a brief period of wet snow early Wednesday morning, mainly in the Poconos and Lehigh Valley. Little or no accumulation is expected as ground temperatures will be too warm.
High pressure returns to the region on Wednesday bringing mostly sunny skies. The cold Canadian air mass will settle in with high temperatures well below average in the lower 50s. Thursday will be sunny, and not as chilly, with highs near 60 degrees.
