Spring Festival Spotlights Immigration
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Plans have been unveiled for the 2016 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts.
The festival opens on April 8th and runs for 16-days. The festival includes 60 separate performances. The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, in partnership with the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, is hosting the event. The Kimmel Center's Artistic Director Jay Wahl talks about the opening performance, called 'Article 13', which he says opens, literally with a ball of fire.
"Article 13 is a collaboration between a French fire installation company and a Mexican theater company, and these companies have come together across the ocean to do a piece that asks questions about migrants, immigrants, refugees, who cross borders to go to someplace or maybe return home again," Wahl said.
Article 13 refers to the UN's Declaration of Human Rights, which states that everyone has the right to freedom of movement in their state and other countries.
