PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The much-anticipated opening of Independence Beer Garden in Old City is set for this coming Thursday.

Construction workers and landscapers have been going at a fever pitch for the past two weeks, installing shrubs, picnic tables, the kitchen and bars all in effort to complete the sprawling 20 thousand square foot beer garden along 6th Street.

Restaurateur Michael Schulson is a little disappointed he couldn't open in time for July 4th:

"It was a little aggressive of us but we were really trying to push the guys. Unfortunately we missed it but you know what? Our goal is to be here for 15, 20, 30 years so we'll look back on this and say we missed July fourth but it'll be our own July 4th."

The Beer Garden will feature 40 taps and American style food in a lush, green surrounding right across the street from the Liberty Bell.
