A Heart Healthy Diet

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - We hear lots of talk about the best diets to prevent heart disease: Here are some tips.

Aim for three to five servings of vegetables per day. Choose those with bright colors, such as green peppers and vibrant orange carrots. Swap out some of your starches and grains for fruit.

If you are going to have grains, choose whole grains. They contain more nutrients than products made with refined white flour. Healthy examples include 100% whole-wheat crackers and bread and brown rice.

Cut back on fats. High levels of total and saturated fats are bad for your heart health.

Eat more low-fat versions of dairy products and fewer fried foods, fatty cuts of meat, and hydrogenated oils.
