A Creative New Approach To Build Enthusiasm For The DNC

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Democratic National Convention's host committee unveils a creative new civic approach to build enthusiasm for the DNC coming to Philadelphia in July.
"Hee haw, hee haw, hee haw," brayed Ed Rendell, former Pennsylvania Governor and Philadelphia 2016 host committee chair for the DNC, as he led the crowd in a play on the colonial exclamation, "huzzah!"
The sound of a donkey-- the symbol of the democrats-- set the mood for the announcement: 57 fiberglass donkeys will be on display at various location around town.
"Why 57 you ask? Because there are 57 delegations to the Democratic National Convention. The 50 states, the District of Columbia, five territories, and Americans abroad," said Rendell.
Each donkey will be painted by one of 30 local artists, with the chair of delegation determining what goes on it. Pennsylvania's images includes the mountain laurel, the state flower; and the Liberty Bell.
Once completed, all 57 donkeys will be on display from July 1st through September 1st.
The art pieces that are not taken back by the delegation will be auctioned off, and proceeds will go to the artists who painted them.
