A Charter School On Brink Of Closure Leaves Parents Looking For New Schools For Their Children

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia charter school is in danger of imminent closure.

But as KYW's Justin Udo reports, parents are getting help as they try to find new schools for their kids.

Due to financial struggles, the Walter D. Palmer Leadership Learning Partners Charter School doesn't look like it will be open much longer.

Now many of the 1,200 students at the K-12 charter need to find a new place to go to school.

"We've set up these sessions to prepare parents as best we can for their transition to provide them with options," said Julian Thompson with the School District of Philadelphia.

At an information session for parents Monday, Thompson said they are trying to make a difficult process a little easier for the parents.

"They'll be able to learn about their options here, then use our online application process that's specifically designated for Walter Palmer families," Thompson said.

Many of the parents say this whole process of trying to find a school for their children has been very frustrating.
