A Block Party On Independence Mall Serves Up Tasty Philly Treats, Before Free Philly Pops Concert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Historic Philadelphia Block Party's being held on either side of Independence Mall today, part of a day of Welcome America festivities that'll be capped by a free Philly Pops concert of patriotic music.

The 20 food trucks lining 5th and 6th streets between Market and Chestnut are serving up some of Philly's tastiest treats, from The Pizza Wagon to Bassett's ice cream.

Eric Bassett says he's scooping up eight flavors.

"This year we've reintroduced a flavor called Red, White, and Blueberry, which is our vanilla ice cream swirled with raspberry and blueberry purees," Bassett said.

Michael Tuono's T&N Homemade Kitchen is there with a food truck emblazoned with 'jeet?' A question that's as Philly as it gets.

"That's the old South Philly slang, Did you eat yet - jeet? That's the name of our vehicle, it's on the back of our tee shirts. Keepin' it Philly, keepin' it South Philly, keepin' it real."

Tuono's looking forward to the 8 p.m. free Philly Pops concert of patriotic music. Seating's limited, so bring a lawn chair or blanket. For the food trucks, all you'll need is some cash and an appetite.
