89-Year-Old Man Dies Following Germantown House Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man pulled from a house fire in Philadelphia late Monday evening has died.

The fire started at about 11:20 a.m. inside a home on East Washington Lane in the city's Germantown section.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames billowing from inside the home. Firefighters were able to place the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

Fire officials say an 89-year-old man rescued from the home went into cardiac arrest and later died. The victim's identity was not immediately known.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
