Thanksgiving And The Risk Of Alcohol Related Accidents

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. There are few things as satisfying as getting together with loved ones and having a great meal. But there are health concerns.

My biggest concern is the travel to and from the celebrations. The first issue is the risk of alcohol related accidents. With celebrations comes alcohol for many—and for some there is not a designated driver. This is potentially a tragic situation with crowded roads and families traveling to and from gatherings.

If you are going to a family member or friend's house, please make sure that everyone is wearing seat belts and certainly make certain that if you are driving that you are awake and alert and have not been drinking alcohol.

It is crucial that you are vigilant in the event you come across a drunk driver. I am not trying to put a downside on a great holiday, but it is important to be prepared and have a great holiday.
