PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Parents can play a big part in their children's life and serve as role models. There are little things you can do to help their overall health. Here are a few suggestions: turn off the computer and go for a bike ride, or opt for vegetables instead of fries.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children get no more than two hours of screen time daily. Encourage your child to find more active ways to spend time. Instead of playing video games for hours, organize a neighborhood game which includes some exercise.

Physical activity provides a host of benefits for kids—from controlling weight and building strong bones to warding off disease. Experts recommend kids get at least 60 minutes of exercise on most days. Just a few small steps you can take.
