7-Eleven Clerk Pistol-Whipped During Robbery In Frankford

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a convenience store clerk was pistol-whipped during a robbery in Northeast Philadelphia Wednesday morning.

The robbery happened at about 3 a.m. at the 7-Eleven store in the 5200 block of Oxford Avenue.

According to investigators, two suspects entered the store, went behind the counter and ordered an employee to open both registers.

During the armed robbery, police say one of the suspects pistol-whipped the employee.

After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspects ran out of the store.

The employee was taken to Temple University Hospital to receive stitches. He is expected to be OK.

The clerk told investigators he observed the suspects in the store's parking lot 45 minutes before the robbery casing the business.

Police say neither suspect was wearing a mask. Detectives are currently reviewing video from the store's surveillance cameras.
