7-Decade Old Eagles' Fight Song Honored

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- You'll probably be hearing the Eagles fight song two, three, four times this afternoon as the Birds host the Seahawks at the Linc.
In City Council this past week came a resolution honoring that song, which is now seven decades old.
Councilman Jim Kenney won't win any awards for his rendition of the Eagles fight song, but he was more than happy to try in honor of the song's more than 70 years.
He says it is believed to have been written in the 1940s by Roger Courtland and Charlie Borelli.
"It was played in the stands by a brass band that the Eagles employed at the time. Then during the (owner Leonard) Tose era it kind of fell out of favor, because Tose didn't care about the song, and they weren't doing very well at the time. And then in 1998 they kind of revived it again with the Eagles pep band."
Kenney calls its the second or third top Philadelphia sports song, after the Rocky theme and "God Bless America."
"I just think its a time to recognize the song as something that brings together every part of our city, every race, every ethnicity, every nationality. Everybody gets behind the song."
