Wawa Planning New Store for Broad and Walnut Streets

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Wawa, that staple of Philadelphia convenience stores, may be coming to a new and larger center city location.

The corner of Broad and Walnut Streets was home to Robinson's Luggage for 29 years.  Now, if all goes as planned, a brand-new Wawa store will move into that space.

Wawa spokeswoman Lori Bruce e-mailed a statement that said, in part, that they have a contract for the space and "we are working to obtain approvals in time to make an announcement during our April 16th Wawa Day festivities!"

Area residents were mostly welcoming the news.  But some had concerns for other businesses close by.

"It's nice to have a little Wawa like the one down by Jefferson Hospital," said Jeff, "but a really big one?   It may take business away from the little shops around here that need the business."

The new Wawa store would be 5,300 square feet and include indoor seating.
