Some New Jersey Residents Will Be Assigned New Area Code

TRENTON (CBS) -- Some residents in New Jersey will be assigned a new area code.
Officials announced Wednesday that a 640 code will be added to the existing 609 code in central and southern New Jersey.

The new code will apparently only be issued for new numbers, so current 609 numbers should not change.
Officials predict the 609 codes will max out by late next year.
