Nor'easter Dumps Record Snowfall In Some Parts Of Area
PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) -- Parts of the region saw record snowfall from the latest nor'easter of March.
Wednesday's storm dumped 6.7 inches of snow in Philadelphia, beating the old daily record for March 21 by two inches set in 1932. Wilmington also got 6.7 inches of snow, beating the 1964-record of 5.4 inches. But Allentown demolished the 1964 record of 4.3 inches as the they got 13.2 inches of snow.
Some schools had cancelled classes for Thursday due to treacherous travel conditions in some areas, but many districts planned to reopen or hold delayed openings.
Pennsylvania's major utilities reported that slightly more than 1,200 customers were without service early Thursday. Tens of thousands still remain without power in New Jersey.
The storm dropped about 8 to 12 inches overall in central areas, while some eastern areas saw up to 16 inches.
Most major roadways in the state were clear, but residents were being urged to drive cautiously and allow extra travel time.
