"40" To Play Special Role In Philadelphia Orchestra's 2014-15 Season

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Orchestra announced its 2014-2015 season Wednesday night. Their music director, celebrating a milestone of his own, has a plan that will be music to the ears of many orchestra regulars.
Philadelphia Orchestra subscribers and fans took to Verizon Hall here at the Kimmel Center, to get a peak at the 2014-15 season. And music director Yannick Nezet-Seguin says he has something special planned for his third season at the helm. It's the 40/40 Project.
"Forty pieces that have not been performed by the Orchestra in my lifetime, so the past 40 years," Nezet-Seguin said.
A fitting present, as Nezet-Seguin turns 40. Sprinkled throughout the season, pieces the Orchestra may have performed elsewhere, but not at home.
"For example, the first suite of Nutcracker. How obvious is that? But it's never been performed on subscription for the past 40 years," Nezet-Seguin said.
The season begins in September.
