4 Organizations That Help Philadelphians Get College Degrees Exploring Ways To Collaborate

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The four groups that help Philadelphians get a college education are exploring ways to work together.

Their missions have similarities, and distinct differences. Campus Philly, Graduate! Philadelphia, PhillyGoes2College and the Graduation Coach Campaign help students to get their college degrees.

After a City Council hearing this week, Deborah Diamond, president of Campus Philly, said with an increase in the city's contribution, the groups could coordinate better.

"What we'd like to do is consolidate that funding from the city of Philadelphia and enable the four organizations to function like the pipeline and the collaborative that we really should be."

Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds-Brown wanted to examine the budgets of the four organizations, to be sure city money is well-spent.

"The observation is, I'd really need to see in writing, on paper, where the linkages are."

Diamond says the goal, though, is for the four to remain separate collaborating organizations.
