4 Hospitalized After Car Crashes Into Chester County Shoe Store

TREDYFFRIN TWP., Pa., (CBS) – Four people were hospitalized after a car crashes into a Famous Footwear store in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County.

It happened around 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Gateway Shopping Center in the 200 block of E. Swedesford Road.

The damage says it all. Scary moments for five people inside Famous Footwear and onlookers after investigators say a 75-year-old man drives through the front of the store and keeps going, pinning a customer inside.

"They were pinned between the wall and the front of the car in the business here," Chief Eamon Brazunas of Berwyn Fire Department said.

It took firefighters 20 minutes to rescue the man. Another customer and store employee were hit with flying debris. Three people and the driver in all were taken to Paoli Hospital.

"There were ambulances and fire engines and everything. People standing around. We had no idea what happened," Mary Guyer said.

Mary was with friends having dinner when she saw the commotion.

"It really rattled me because it's so random. I mean we were having dinner in Panera Bread and these people were shopping in Famous Footwear, one of the people who was going to the meeting with us had a son who was working there and was hurt. His face was cut and that sort of thing. So it just feels very, very random," she said. "Very scary. Very scary."

One person remains hospitalized in serious condition. Two others have been treated and released.

The incident remains under investigation.
