3 On Your Side: Study Finds Millennials Job Hopping More Than Their Parents

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Just about everyone is doing it. At least everyone under 32.
We're talking about changing jobs. In today's 3 On Your Side consumer report, a new study finds that millennials are job hopping a lot more than their parents ever did.
Change is the new normal for millennials, switching jobs four times in the first decade out of college.
That bouncing around is nearly double what the previous generation did.
According to a study by LinkedIn the so-called genexers, who graduated from 1986 to 1990, averaged about two job changes in their first decade out of college.
And today, college grads don't just change jobs often, they switch industries.
The biggest hoppers? Those with gigs in entertainment, government, non-profits and the media.
Millennials who stay in their position the longest typically work in industries where they make things such as cars, manufacturing and oil.
The trend doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon. Younger millennials, those who graduated from 2006 to 2010, are on track to surpass four job changes by the time they celebrate their 32nd birthday.
