3 On Your Side: Goodwill Valentine's Day Wedding Dress Sale

By Jim Donovan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Saturday love will be in the air as many celebrate Valentine's Day.  For some brides-to-be the day will also involve shopping for a wedding dress.  3 On Your Side Consumer Reporter Jim Donovan tells us about one sale that allows brides to toss out the bouquet, but not their budget.

Designer bridal gowns can be very expensive, but tomorrow Juli Lundberg of Goodwill says, "Brand new gowns start at $99 dollars and you won't find a single one that's more than $300."  That's because the Goodwill store on route 70 in Pennsauken New Jersey will host its seventh annual bridal gown sale.

"We basically solicit all year round from area bridal boutiques and manufacturers as well. We have Alfred Angelo, we have Maggie Sapporo, we have Aria," says Lundberg.  Over 200 brand new wedding gowns will be on sale at a fraction of their original price. Lundberg says, "Many have the original price tags, you see price tags of $2500.  They can be surplus inventory, they can be sample dresses that are used to try on in a salon and they can be past season."

The gowns are available in sizes 2 to 30.   Plus Lundberg says, "We do have gently used gowns and they start at only $49 and there are some beautiful ones for those who want to go green."

Bridesmaid, flower girl and mother-of-the-bride dresses are available too, perfectly priced to not break the bank.

The sale runs all day tomorrow from 9 am to 9 pm.  But in the past the line starts forming at 6 a.m.  So the earlier that you get there the better the selection.  Money raised goes back into Goodwill's job training program.

By the way, they only have a handful of dressing rooms.  So you may want to wear a body suit, swim suit or something that will cover you up appropriately so that can you try on the gowns right in the open.
