22-Year-Old Killed Short Distance From Firehouse In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A young man is shot dead in front of a West Philadelphia Fire Station Wednesday morning, the target of two gunmen as he walked out of his home.

Philadelphia Police say this happened around 2 a.m. at 42nd and Viola Streets in Parkside.

The 22-year-old victim had just parked his car and ran in his house, as he came back out a few minutes Chief Inspector Scott Small tells Eyewitness News that two masked gunmen approached him.

"And just began firing shots at him from point blank range. The victim ran into the middle of the street. That's where he collapsed, and the shooters stood over his body and fired shots while standing over his body."

Small says medics from that nearby firehouse pronounced the victim dead at the scene. He says there are no surveillance cameras in the area, but several witnesses are talking to police.
