21 Federally Indicted In W.Va.-Pa. Drug Ring

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — A federal drug taskforce has arrested 13 and indicted 21 in a Philadelphia to Morgantown drug distribution ring.

U. S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld announced that a 65-count indictment had been returned by a federal grand jury earlier this month and unsealed Friday.

Ihlenfeld said the defendants, hailing primarily from Philadelphia and Morgantown, were involved in a conspiracy to deliver and distribute large quantities of heroin and prescription painkillers.

The indictment and arrests are the result of a collaboration between the U.S. Attorney's office, the West Virginia State Police, the Mon Valley Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, and the FBI.

Prosecutors say the investigation involved sophisticated surveillance techniques spearheaded by the West Virginia State Police. Eight people affiliated with the ring are still at large.
