2015 A Banner Year For Visits To Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Visit Philadelphia has released its 2015 report, and the numbers are adding up to a Philadelphia as a more popular destination.

Center City hotel occupancy hit a record high in 2015 of 3.1 million room nights.

Visit Philadelphia CEO Meryl  Levitz points out something that has never happened before:

"One out of every three hotel guests was a leisure guest. Saturday night continued its role of being the busiest night for hotels with the highest occupancy."

She says visitors are discovering the city offers a wide open experience beyond the hotel room for a day, or a week:

"People want to go for a vacation or people who are here for a business trip or a convention want to come early or stay late and do what's called 'bleasure' -- the blend of business and leisure ."

Levitz says the level of interest in Philadelphia can also be seen in the one million social media fans who are sharing their experiences.

She adds the word "fun" is being used in the same breath as Philadelphia more and more.

And hold on for 2016 as the Democratic Convention comes to town.
