2 Critically Injured In North Philly House Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two people were rushed to the hospital after being pulled from a house fire in Philadelphia Wednesday morning.

The fire started shortly before 7 a.m. inside a home in the 1700 block of N. 21st Street in North Philadelphia.

When firefighters arrived to the scene, they encountered heavy fire and smoke billowing from the home.

According to fire officials, firefighters pulled a 50-year-old female and a 35-year-old male from the home.

Both victims were rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital. The female reportedly had no vital signs and the male was suffering from respiratory distress and burns on nearly half of his body.

The fire was placed under control at about 7:20 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
