2 Arrested For Allegedly Collecting Phony Donations In Camden County

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) – Two men have been arrested for allegedly coercing people into making donations to a phony organization.

Police in Gloucester Township say that on Feb. 4, 2014 around 7:17 p.m., they were called to the K-Mart for reports of two suspicious males.

An investigation revealed that the two men were collecting money in the name of "The Public Schools Athletic League." The men had clipboards with numerous alleged names and signatures with the amounts they'd fraudulently collected.

The suspects, 20-year-old Lance L. Reynolds and 25-year-old Curtis L. Coney Jr., were arrested.

Reynolds, of Sicklerville, was charged with Hindering Apprehension and Theft By Deception then released on a criminal summons pending court.

Coney, also of Sicklerville, was charged with Theft by Deception and had a failure to appear warrant. He was remanded to Camden County Correctional Facility in default of bail.

Police are asking anyone with information on the specific incident or similar incidents call them.
