18 Shell Casings Found Near Body In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Philadelphia police say a man was shot multiple times in West Philadelphia overnight. Police found 18 spent shell casings near the victim's body.

Just after 11:30pm Monday night, 19th District Police on patrol near Conestoga and Thompson Streets heard gunshots coming from the 1300 block of North Conestoga Street.

When police arrived, they found a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, stomach, both arms, and both legs. Police found 18 spent shell casings around the victim.

Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene just before midnight.

Police say the victim had no identification on him. Officials say the victim is a man in his mid 20s.

Police say there are no witnesses, but there are several businesses in the area that have surveillance cameras.

Police found a gun on the floorboard of a car nearby, but they are not certain if the weapon was used. They are treating the vehicle, a Buick, as part of the crime scene.
