17-Year-Old North Penn Student Charged With Arson In Connection To Fire At School

TOWAMENCIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- Towamencin Township Police have announced that a 17-year-old student has been charged with arson in connection to a fire that took place at North Penn High School on May 24.

At 11:30 a.m., multiple fire departments were on scene at the school for the report of an active fire in a band storage room.

Officials say that approximately 3,000 students and staff were evacuated from the school and the school was closed for the rest of the day. A large portion of the building was damaged by smoke exposure and damage was caused to the band storage area and classrooms on the first floor.

Charges were filed through juvenile court and the 17-year-old was taken into custody on Friday, held at the Montgomery County Youth Detention Center.
