14-Year-Old Charged In Murder Of 13-Year-Old Atlantic City Boy

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., (CBS) – Authorities say a 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a 13-year-old boy in Atlantic City.

A judge has issued the juvenile complaint, but authorities say the arrest has not yet been made.

The shooting happened Wednesday shortly before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Route 30 and Virginia Avenue (See Related Story).

According to investigators, the suspect fired several shots at a group of teens.

Angel Mercado-Santiago, 13, of Atlantic City, was struck in the chest and taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus where he was pronounced dead.

A 15-year-old male was also shot in the leg. He was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

On Friday, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office charged the 14-year-old with murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses. Authorities say his name will not be released because he is a juvenile.

The homicide remains under investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department.
