12. Sum Pig

SUM PIG

You have to admire any place that serves a smoked meat parfait in a large plastic cup, accented with a little umbrella. So we ventured to Love Park to once again find the Sum Pig food truck. The $10 brisket parfait came with layers of mashed potato, corn, coleslaw and tender meat. Plus two strips of bacon. Melt a little cheese on top, add a drizzle of BBQ sauce (and that paper umbrella), and you've got a rib-sticking meal.

Not as successful were the Buffalo chicken nachos. Actually, it starts with a fine base of homemade chips, as good as anything you'll find at the local gourmet shop. Chunks of chicken (okay), a patch of cilantro (nice) and a spritz of gloppy cheese that reminded me of that infernal stuff I used to buy at the Vet years ago. We wound up dumping the cheese and eating whatever naked chips we could find at the bottom of the plastic container.

Hey, we've hit up Sum Pig a few times, and they had a solid showing in last year's Bacon Hunt. Just stick with what they do well – the brisket and pork parfaits – and you'll enjoy.
