$11K Raised For Funeral Of Pa. Boy Killed While Walking From School

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (AP) — An online fundraising campaign has collected nearly $11,000 to cover funeral costs for a seventh grader who was struck by a car and killed while walking home from school in central Pennsylvania.

Organizers of the gofundme.com page say Tuesday they're overwhelmed by the community's support in the wake of 13-year-old David Weiser's death.

Police say an SUV hit Weiser around 3 p.m. Monday on East High Street in Elizabethtown. Witnesses say Weiser had been crossing the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mourners placed candles, stuffed animals and other mementos nearby.

The Elizabethtown Area School District says it's providing grief counseling for students, teachers and other staff members.

Weiser's family hasn't released funeral information.

Elizabethtown is about 18 miles southeast of Harrisburg and 18 miles northwest of Lancaster.
