1 Killed In Kensington House Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Fire officials say one person was killed during a house fire in Philadelphia early Monday morning.

The fire started shortly before 6 a.m. in a home in the 2700 block of Helen Street in the city's Kensington section.

When firefighters arrived to the scene, they encountered fire and smoke coming from the first floor of the home.

Firefighters were able to quickly place the fire under control at about 6:30 a.m.

After placing the fire under control, fire officials discovered the body of an unidentified male inside the home.

The fire chief requested PECO crews to the scene after reports of a possible illegal electrical hook-up, but that was not immediately confirmed.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
