Bus Driver Dies After School Bus Fire In Monmouth County

MONMOUTH COUNTY, N.J. (CBS)-- Police say a school bus driver has died after a bus went up in flames on Tuesday afternoon in Monmouth County.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. along Phananx Road near Woodhollow Road in Colts Neck Township. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office tells CBS New York the fire was the result of an accident between a school bus and an SUV.

Officials say the SUV and the bus were involved in a head-on collision.

The idenity of the driver has not been released at this time.

Colts Neck police tell CBS 3 that those injured in the crash were transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. A school bus aide and one student were on the bus and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
