Woman Killed In Crash In Hunting Park

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One person is dead and another was injured after a crash in North Philadelphia.

It happened around 12:45 a.m. Sunday at Old York Road and West Luzerne Street in the Hunting Park section of the city.

Police said the driver of a Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on Old York Road when he crossed over the double center yellow lines, drove into oncoming traffic and collided head on with a Dodge Durango, then slammed into a parked car.

Investigators said the 43-year-old driver was seen trying to walk away from the crash but was held there until police arrived by the 28-year-old man behind the wheel of the SUV he struck.

The driver of the Altima was taken to Episcopal Hospital in stable condition. A woman in her late 20's, who was in the front passenger seat of the car, was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

No one else was injured in the crash.
