2 Dead, Dozens Hurt When Bus Overturns In Delaware

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) –  Two people are dead and dozens more were injured after a tour bus overturned in New Castle, Delaware.

This happened just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday on the Route 1 off ramp.

Police say a bus carrying 50 people was exiting onto the off ramp to U.S. 13 northbound in New Castle when the driver lost control while traveling around a curve. The bus left the roadway and flipped onto its roof.

Police say 54-year-old Hua'y Chen of New York City was ejected from the bus and then got pinned underneath it.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second woman, 30-year-old Idil Bahsi from Istanbul, Turkey, suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was transported to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where she died several hours later.

48 other people on board the bus were all injured – four critically – in the horrific accident.

"It's almost from like a war zone," explained Elvis Cruz, who drove past the crash after it happened. "Everyone was so cut up, missing bits and pieces of arms and face. There was no one on the scene without blood on them except for me."

Cruz said he stopped, grabbed a First Aid kit and did what he could to help.

"Everyone was crying and bleeding out," he said, "and screaming for help."

Among the dozens of victims, two of them were children.

Police say the bus is owned by AM USA Express based out of Chinatown, New York. The 49 passengers were part of a sightseeing tour group that was returning from Washington D.C. when the crash occurred.

The 56-year-old bus driver was treated for minor injuries. Police say any charges against the driver will be determined when their investigation of the crash is complete.
