By Tim Jimenez

VINELAND, NJ (CBS) -- A man is dead after his car slammed into the back of a salt truck in South Jersey overnight.

The crash left a Sea Isle City man dead and State Police trying to determine if the snow coming down and wet roads had anything to do with his 2015 Audi A3 hitting the truck from behind.

It happened on Route 55 southbound around milepost 33 in Vineland, Cumberland County.

Around 2 in the morning, state police officials say 32-year-old Michael Bennett was in the right lane when he hit the NJ-DOT salt truck treating the road in front of him.

Police say the Audi came to an uncontrolled stop and Bennett was pronounced dead on scene.

Authorities say the salt truck's strobe lights were on at the time of the crash.

The driver sustained minor injuries. Police shutdown the highway for about three hours for the investigation.
