Yankees Sign Ex-Met Ruben Tejada To Minor League Deal
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Former Mets infielder Ruben Tejada is joining the Yankees organization.
Tejada has agreed to a minor league contract with the Bombers, ESPN and WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman reported.
Tejada, 27, spent the first six years of his major-league career with the Mets, playing mostly shortstop, but also seeing time at second and third bases. He was a member of the Mets' National League pennant team in 2015 but missed the World Series after he broke his leg on a controversial slide by the Dodgers' Chase Utley in the National League Division Series.
The Mets waived Tejada during spring training last year, and he split the season playing for the Cardinals and Giants.
In 36 games last season, Tejada batted .167 with no home runs and five RBIs. For his career, he has a .252 average, 10 home runs and 153 RBIs.
