Yankees Move Struggling Starter Nathan Eovaldi To Bullpen

CHICAGO (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Yankees have moved struggling starter Nathan Eovaldi to the bullpen.

With Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller unavailable for Monday's game at the White Sox, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Eovaldi will be New York's "seventh- and eighth-inning guy today."

Girardi said rookie Chad Green will start Friday night at Cleveland.

Eovaldi is 6-6 this season with a 5.54 ERA after going 14-3 last year in his first season in New York. But the hard-throwing right-hander has struggled mightily in his last six starts. During that span, he is 0-4 with a 9.20 ERA.

It's unclear how long he will work out of the bullpen. Girardi says he envisions Eovaldi as a starter, but they have a need in the bullpen right now.

Meanwhile, Green, making just his second career start, allowing one run on three hits over six innings in Sunday's 6-3 victory at San Diego.
